HISTORY:

Childhood:-

Astoria was born into the Greengrass family on the 2nd of April 1982, two years after her older sister Daphne. She, like her older sister was born into a pure blooded family, who expected great things from both their daughters, yet Astoria always seemed to be in the shadow of her older sister. While growing up, no matter what she did to impress her parents, they had already seen it before from their eldest. Therefore, they were never fully impressed with Astoria's attempt- or that's how she saw it. It wasn't intentional obviously, both just seemed oblivious that they were doing so. Even though she spent her life dealing with this treatment, Astoria never spoke of it, she wanted to push through on her own and impress her parents that way, instead of mentioning it and never knowing if they were actually impressed or only making a fuss to make her feel better.

Her childhood was that of a normal child; Learning, playing and daydreaming. She was a bright child, always willing to learn and never holding back. She was creative, mostly in writing and imaginative stories than art. She was never good at art, usually finding it hard to do anything with a quill than write. If you ever lost Astoria when she was a child, anybody who knew her well enough would know exactly where she was; either curled up in one of the large plush chairs within the conservatory writing in her diary or dancing around the room.

She wasn't a social child, usually finding it hard to make friends with the other children. Most of those she met were her sisters age and usually were too interested in doing activities with Daphne rather than pay attention to her younger sister. She was able to tag along, but she was usually the one that trailed at their heels keeping silent and feeling overly awkward.

Leaving the only true friend she had as a child being her sister, Daphne. They had their fights, but always came back in the end. She was the only person Astoria felt comfortable being herself around. As children she and her sister were close and shared a strong bond, which slowly wilted as they got older.

From a young age Astoria has always seemed rather motherly to those she cares for. She has always had the tendency to arrive when you really need someone. As both a child and an adult, Astoria has been and is really caring to everyone she likes, usually getting really worried about them and making sure she stays with them until they're okay. It usually left her to waking up early in the morning and made sure the House Elves had made breakfast for everyone so her parents could get to work on time.

She was also a child with many dreams and ambitions for the future. Her mind never stopped running with ideas for her life, which her mother usually told her off for stating it was unhealthy for a child to have that much planned and that she needed to stick to one plan and one only. Her mother always said that she would grow out of her childish fantasies, which she never did, but likes to keep them to herself to avoid hassle with her parents.
Other than that, her childhood wasn't that eventful. Her and Daphne did what they could to keep their lives from being boring, which usually led to them getting into all sorts of trouble.

Hogwarts / Teenage life :-

When Daphne got her acceptance letter from Hogwarts the house seemed to turn upside down for everyone but Astoria. It was a quiet year for the young Greengrass, her parents seemed to forget they had another child unless she made herself known. When she was seen and remembered, most of the time her parents wanted her to praise Daphne and give her everything she needed. Proud parents happy their daughter had been accepted into Hogwarts. As a proud and loving sister, Astoria always praised her and gave her what she wanted with no questions asked. As much as Astoria wanted to he in the spotlight her sister was worth much more than her own feelings.

Then the day when Daphne left arrived, quicker than she had hoped. It was two years of loneliness for Astoria. Her only friend had left and her parents always had work, leaving her in the house alone with the House Elves and the occasional nanny, both of which she didn't feel comfortable being around.

During the first year of loneliness, Astoria noticed a subtle change in her sisters personality when she did return home. It wasn't that noticeable, but Astoria had the habit of picking up on changes quicker than others. She went along with it, knowing deep down that Daphne was still her sister and that's what mattered.

Though, when Daphne did start returning home for holidays, her time for her younger sister seemed to become less and less, to the point where it was only at family gatherings or the occasional meet in the hallway before breakfast that they actually got to meet. Which made Astoria feel worse about everything.

During the two years she had to herself, Astoria started early on books that Daphne had left at home. They were the only thing she had to read and she believed that a quick start in school meant less work in the long run. She also spent her time working on her dancing, her mother getting her the help she needed to progress.

When Astoria's letter of acceptance arrived she was thrilled. Obviously her parents weren't as thrilled as they were with Daphne's, but Astoria didn't expect them to be. She was happy with the praise she got and was finally happy to have something to do during the year instead of sitting around and waiting for Daphne to come home or send a letter.

Hogwarts was probably the best experience of Astoria's life. It wasn't long until she managed to come out of her shell and make friends. With them all being her age and none of them knowing who her sister was, it was a relief that she could finally make friends of her own. Better yet, most of them seemed to have the same interests and hobbies.

Even if Hogwarts was the best experience of her life, her sisters shadow seemed to grow. Her first year was the worst for it, none of her fellow housemates seemed able to grasp her name and resorted to calling her “Daphne's sister”.She was referenced to Daphne a lot in school, especially by the older Slytherin males that were in her year. None of them really asking her what she was like, only assuming she was exactly like her sister because they were related.

She was sorted into Slytherin, like her sister and the rest of the Greengrass family. She became determined to prove she was nothing like Daphne and that she was her own person. Even though trying to be an individual was hard when your sister was Daphne Greengrass, Astoria never once complained but continued to pull through.

It wasn't long into her first year that Astoria came out of her shell, feeling comfortable to be herself around other people. It was a slow process, but year after year she opened up a bit more and developed as a person.

Her personality developed more within school, mostly everyone noticing she was completely different around people she didn't like or knew. It was the only time her and her sister were alike. She was bitter at the other houses, having that Slytherin pride for a good few years of her life, it slowly depleted as the years went on.

Astoria wasn't as popular as Daphne within Hogwarts, she didn't ever expect to be. Yet, being the sister of Daphne gave her an overall boost it seemed. She preferred to sit with her friends instead than attempt to live the life of Daphne.

She was in fifth year when the war kicked-off fully. New management and rules took over the school. Yet Astoria didn't mind, they were there for a reason and in a way she agreed with them, as did many of her friends. Then the battle at Hogwarts arose when she was preparing to take her O.W.Ls. She, like a lot of the students her age, were escorted off the premises to safety. She had no reason to stay and fight, so she was happy enough to leave with her sister back to the Greengrass Manor and wait for it all to blow over.

It was during this year that the Greengrass family along with a few other pure-blooded families, backed Voldemort. They didn't throw themselves into the deep end and back him with all the money they had, instead gave little pieces here and there while standing behind him, showing their loyalty. Her parents done it to protect their family, the odds were against Harry Potter winning, so the logical road to take was to back Voldemort. That way if it just so happened that the Dark Lord rose to power they were safe from any harm and they could continue to lead their lives.

Astoria accepted her parents choice in backing Voldemort, even if she had no full loyalty to anyone, she knew her parents were doing it to protect their family.

Adulthood:-

When Harry came out victorious, the Greengrass family fell back, finally resorting in them disappearing. Her parents went into hiding, even resorting to them moving to a quieter location for a few years until everything got back to normal. They were in fear of being judged for backing the Dark Lord, feeling it best to hide their family away for a few years.

Astoria still lived her life as normal, making sure that she kept herself off the radar to keep her parents happy. After Hogwarts was finished Astoria took a year out of education and work, to stay at home and get her head straight of what she wanted to do with her life. It was during this year that her parents started putting themselves back out, three years since what happened and they felt that it was long enough for them to keep themselves hidden. Slowly but surely coming back into the social scene, mostly welcomed back with open arms.

After Hogwarts Astoria decided to stay with her parents again. They were back in their original home in England and everything at home seemed to be going back to normal.

Finally four years since the War and Astoria had managed to stick with a job idea and go for it. She is now a small time article writer for the Daily Prophet. It wasn't anything large and magnificent, but to reach the top you much start from the bottom. She is happy with what she's doing, even if her parents weren't.

She now works as a column writer for the Daily Prophet about the happenings that are going on and occasionally helps out on the “Which Witch” section.
